A Quick and Easy Way to Disinfect Shoes and Eliminate Shoe Odor

Here's a drawing for you to save/share if you want :D but please do credit my blog, thanks! >.<
How to disinfect and eliminate odor from secondhand shoes or from your old shoes.

So here's a pair of shoes I bought from an online store here in the Philippines that sells items that are thrifted. These cute shoes look like they're in good condition, buuuuut I just want to make sure that's why I'm gonna disinfect these.

First, I use a sponge with rubbing alcohol to take off the dirt marks inside and out. I don't really recommend using this kind of sponge because it's kinda rough so it made some scratch on my shoes, I found that out the hard way. T_T

Instead, you can use a rag to wipe your shoes clean. You can also use laundry detergent to clean off the dirt marks. Since my shoes have cloth fabric inside, I used the rag with laundry detergent to gently wipe my shoes. Then I rinsed the rag with water and wipe the detergent off.

Now spray the insides with Lysol to disinfect any remaining bacteria. Make sure not to let the Lysol touch your skin (read the warning labels of the Lysol bottle).

Then spray the outsides.

Now let your shoes dry under the sun for a few hours. I only did this post today because the sun wasn't around during the past couple of days due to the bad weather here in the Philippines. :(

So these are the items I used for disinfecting excluding the rag.

I read somewhere that you could cut up a sheer pantyhose on the ankle and fill it up with baking soda then tie it up then put one on each shoe before leaving your shoes under the sun. I didn't try this because I don't have any pantyhose to spare. Also, like in the picture, you can choose to put your shoes in a plastic bag then place it in the refrigerator overnight so that the bacteria that die in the cold will.. well.. die. I didn't do that part 'cause some people in my house would rather the refrigerator be for food only. :D

Yay, so expect this newly disinfected Liz Lisa boots to be featured in one of my outfit post! If you're curious as where I got these babies, then stay tuned! :D

So what do you think of this post? If you have any comments, reactions, feedback or inquiries, feel free to comment! :)
